The residential shelters operated by Women's Crisis Center provide safe and comfortable homelike settings where abused women and their children can work towards a safe living option. The average length of stay is three weeks; actual length varies according to individual needs.
Children can have fun in a protected outdoor playground or in ‘Children's World,' a special indoor play area designed just for them. Our shelters also include private bedrooms, laundry facilities, dining and common gathering areas.
In an environment of community living, residents contribute to the household by doing tasks and while in shelter receive the following services:
Counselor Advocate Assistance - residents meet to develop an individualized goal plan that includes securing permanent housing, job and/or educational opportunities and child-care. This plan emphasizes safety in order to secure a comfortable violence free future.
Educational and Support Group Programs - residents receive the following services:
Partner abuse education
Peer support
Life skills training
Health and wellness education
Community resources information
Artistic expression opportunities
Children's Advocate Program - provides individual and group counseling for children who have witnessed/experienced abuse in their homes. Shelter staff communicates with the local school district to assist children with their educational needs while residing in shelter.
Pet Protection Program - pets of our shelter residents receive temporary emergency shelter while their owners make long term plans.
